What are Rock Schools?

Rock Schools take places over five days during school holidays at South Street Studios in Ipswich. Attendees participate in music workshops, write and record music in bands formed on the Rock School, and perform a concert to friends and family.

Our experienced tutors work with attendees to help them develop their songwriting and performing talents. Guiding them through lyric-writing, picking chords and crafting catchy melodies for their songs.

Rock Schools are open to all 10-16 year olds. No previous performing experience is necessary but some musical experience is preferred (such as having had private music lessons or being a proficient bedroom guitarist!).

Booking is currently available for the following dates:

For pricing, itinerary and other information visit the Book A Place page and select your preferred date. If you have any questions, get in touch.

Songwriting: Days 1 - 3

  • We deconstruct the songwriting process, exploring how to write engaging lyrics and choose the chords to accompany them.

  • Each band works with a band mentor who helps them write and develop their songs.

  • The songs can be in any genre, not just rock. We encourage every band to be creative and original!

 Performing: Days 4 & 5

  • On day four, the bands go into the recording studio where they work with the studio's engineer to record their songs.

  • On the final day, the bands rehearse and work on their stage presence before playing a concert at The Smokehouse music venue.

Beyond The Music

  • Our aim isn't just to improve musical skills, but to also help build confidence and team working skills that apply across all areas of life.

  • Attendees are encouraged to share their ideas and try new things. Be it by trying a new instrument or playing in front of other people for the first time.

  • Importantly, the Rock Schools are fun. Learning should be an enjoyable experience, not a painful one!
